Dozens nabbed in Lake County drug sweep

The Lake County Sheriff's Office said a joint operation with federal and local law enforcement has resulted in a total of 117 arrests of individuals responsible for dealing drugs throughout the area.  The arrests come following two separate operations that began in March 2015.

"Operation: Ice Breakers," targeted high-level suppliers and dealers of crystal methamphetamine and resulted in warrants for 54 people who face charges ranging from trafficking to possession.  Forty-five of those who were wanted were taken into custody during a warrants sweep, including five suppliers. In addition, 17 vehicles and several weapons were seized, authorities say.

"Operation: Safe Neighborhoods," targeted street-level dealers of various types of drugs throughout Lake County and began in response to citizen complaints.  Arrest warrants were obtained for 87 individuals on various drug-related charges, most of whom had lengthy criminal histories, investigators tell FOX 35. A round-up was conducted in early January, during which time 63 of the wanted subjects were taken into custody.
