Does U.S. patent application offer glimpse at new Universal Orlando ride?
ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Universal Orlando may bring Pac-Man to life and give you the chance to be part of the game. An application to the U.S. Patent Office describes plans for a ride that sure looks like it.
WorldOfUniversal.com founder John Sala says his team is aware of the filing and has poured over the apparent plans.
"Based on (the application) it's a really exciting version of a Pac-Man come to life," says Sala.
The application was originally filed with the patent office in 2014. However, Sala says it popped up on the agency's website recently and offers a lot of intel on what the ride could look like and how it could function.
The news of the patent application comes at a time of rampant speculation about Universal Orlando expansion plans. The company recently acquired a large parcel of land that sits roughly between W. Sand Lake Road and Universal Boulevard.
Workers are already clearing part of the land. However, Universal is not sharing its long-term plans for the site. Sala and others speculate a new Universal theme park could rise there and possibly include the ride featured in the patent filing.
