One suspect is in custody and a search is underway for additional suspects following a shooting involving an Orange County sheriff's deputy.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office confirms that a deputy fired at a burglary suspect around noon on Thursday in Orlando's College Park neighborhood.  It began when authorities received a 911 call alerting them to a possible break-in on Beatrice Avenue.

"There were some burglars inside the residence, and they continued to provide updates to OCSO as deputies arrived on scene," said Capt. Angelo Nieves with the Sheriff's Office.

Deputies arrived on scene and confronted three suspects.

"They provided commands. The suspects disregarded those commands, and one fled from the back of the residence north from here," Capt. Nieves explained.

Nieves said at least one other suspect fled in a car.

"They tried to get the suspect out of the vehicle when the vehicle was put into drive by the suspect, the suspect gunned the vehicle and drove at the deputy. The deputy fired fearing for his safety," he said .

Just over three miles from the scene, a deputy spotted the white Lexus, laced with bullet holes.  The car is believed to have been stolen from a residence in Belle Isle.

The car stopped and witnesses said two men jumped out of the Lexus.  Deputies arrested one of the suspects who had been wounded in the shooting.  He was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating.
