Deputy arrested for theft from inmate

A Brevard County Sheriff's Office Corrections Deputy was arrested today for several charges including fraud after a discrepancy was discovered in an inmates's release account.

Agents arrested 29-year-old Felicia Brown, and charged her with Fraudulent Use of a Credit Card, Scheme to Defraud, Petit Theft, Official Misconduct, Criminal Use of Personal Information, and False Entries in Books of a Business Entity.

Brevard County Sheriff's Office initially starting investigating last week after an account clerk found the discrepancy. The jail was also contacted by the inmate who said they had not received money in their account upon release.

The Economic Crimes Task Force and Professional Standards Unit determined the releasing corrections deputy did not provide the inmate their funds on a debit card.

Deputies say Brown noticed the funds were available and put them on a debit card that she took, using it to make buy things at four different stores in the Titusville area. Brown was captured on business surveillance video making some of the purchases which were less than $100.

Brown was booked into another local county jail complex and is being held on a $30,000 bond.
