Deputies search for suspect behind Apopka homicide

A quiet neighborhood in Apopka is on alert after a man was shot and killed over the weekend. Deputies are still hunting for the suspect.

Orange County Sheriff's deputies got the call on Sunday morning just before 4:30 a.m. Upon arrival to the scene, they found a deceased man on the ground at Marden Road and Marden Meadows Drive. The man has since been identified as 48-year-old Elias Bratcher.

Detectives quickly focused their attention to two vehicles: a Green Kia Soul and a semi-truck. The Kia's windows were shattered and the truck was dusted for fingerprints.

Neighbors at a nearby apartment said that they did not see anything, but they heard something that startled them awake. "In the middle of the night, we heard 'Pop! Pop! Pop!' I thought it was someone pounding on our door, and was like 'what is that?' My fiance said 'I think that was gunshots!"

Deputies are asking for the public's help in finding the identity of the man killed and a possible suspect. If you know anything, please call investigators at 1-800-423-TIPS.
