Deputies say man left infant alone in car

A Florida man was arrested over the weekend, accused of leaving his girlfriend’s baby alone inside a car.

Richard M. Moore, 30, of DeLand, was taken into custody on a felony child neglect charge after a deputy with the Volusia County Sheriff's Office was alerted to reports that a baby was left unattended.   The deputy spotted Moore's car parked in front of a Walmart on South Woodland Boulevard, with the lights on and the doors locked. The deputy found the one-year-old child in a car seat and the boy appeared unresponsive.

Not knowing how long the child had been inside of the vehicle, if the child was asleep or having a type of medical issue, the deputy was preparing to break the window when Moore walked out of the store.   Moore told the deputy that he was only inside of Walmart for approximately five minutes

Paramedics responded and determined that the baby was okay before being turned over to a family member.  The Florida Department of Children and Families has been notified and is investigating.
