Demolition begins for ONE DAYTONA

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - A Daytona Beach eyesore is being demolished to make room for the ONE DAYTONA project, the planned mixed-use and entertainment destination located across the street from Daytona International Speedway. 

Police Chief Mike Chitwood used an excavator to tear down the first part of the old Daytona Beach Extended Stay.   Chitwood says they've had 1,000 police calls to this old motel for prostitution and drugs since 2012. Now, this area will be re-built and be the new home for ONE DAYTONA.

"There's gonna be two hotels, a Marriott Autograph Hotel, two residential properties totaling 356 units roughly, then a whole bunch of retail dining, entertainment," said Craig Neeb, with International Speedway Corporation. "We've announced P.F. Chang's and a whole bunch of new tenants."

In addition to P.F. Chang's, lease agreements have been signed with retailers Hy's Toggery, Kilwins, Bass Pro Shops, and Cobb Theatres, according to developers.   The approximately 300,000-square-feet project represents an of $120 to $150 million.  The first phase of ONE DAYTONA is planned to open in 2017.
