Deltona Park damaged, suspects caught

Deltona Parks and Recreation crews worked to repair the damaged grass at the Dewey Boster Park in Deltona, after deputies say vandals did donuts on the field Tuesday morning, then again Tuesday evening.

“This is ridiculous, this is a nice field over here so I'm kind of astonished that someone would do something like this," said parent James Gregory.

Deputies released surveillance images of the suspect vehicle from Tuesday morning, which they say caused more than $2,000 in damage to the field, investigators say some juveniles were caught Tuesday evening and confessed to the crime.

"My kids use the field as well and to know that people are driving like that, whether it's day or night, it's dangerous," Gregory said.

The damage is very especially because of the wet weather, large chunks of grass literally uprooted from the ground and deputies say this isn't the first incident. Tire marks from a previous incident are still visible as workers try to patch them up.

Soccer matches and other sports still continue at the park despite the damage, but parents like Gregory say the suspects should help fix the damage

"I hope that they take care of it, and they do probably a bunch of community service even where it doesn't need to be fixed," Gregory said.
