DELTONA, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - The City of Deltona has named a street in honor of an Air Force airman who was killed in a terrorist attack in Afghanistan in April of 2011.
Master Sgt. Tara R. Jacobs Brown and three computer-systems personnel were working on a project to build a national level communications network in the Air Command and Control Center at Kabul International Airport when a single gunman opened fire, killing Brown, seven active-duty Air Force officers and one Air Force civilian contract employee.
Brown, a 1995 Deltona High School graduate, was honored during a ceremony on Monday. Several hundred turned out for the event as the street sign baring Tara's name was unveiled by family and community leaders. Deltona Mayor John C. Masiarczyk spearheaded the local street naming to honor the fallen soldier's memory. Deltona High Chorus and ROTC units paid tribute to the late graduate and to her sacrifice to our Nation.
