DeBary City Council to discuss building new solar farm

The DeBary City Council is holding a public meeting on Wednesday to discuss building a new solar farm.

The West Volusia Beacon reports that Duke Energy wants to build it on 300 acres west of Don Smith Boulevard. If all goes well, construction will begin in the third quarter of 2019.

Duke Energy told the West Volusia Beacon that the facility will cost between $70 million and $100 million. When it goes into operation, it will reportedly produce an estimated 74.5 million watts of electricity per day. That is enough to meet the needs of more than 20,000 average homes.

This project is reportedly part of Duke Energy's $1 billion investment in clean, renewable solar energy in Florida. 10 new solar arrays are planned for the Sunshine State.
