DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (FOX 35 WOFL) - Daytona Beach is considering a strong crackdown on aggressive panhandlers. The change is similar to a panhandling ordinance already on the books in St. Augustine.
The city of Daytona Beach is now looking to see if a measure already in place in St. Augustine is an option. Among other things, the St. Augustine City Ordinance prohibits panhandling 20 feet near the entrance of businesses or parking lots, as well as 100 feet from day cares and schools.
The changes being considered, if adopted, would also keep an eye on panhandler's language, keep them from touching people without consent, and will cite them if under the influence.
