Data breach reported at Rosen Hotels and Resorts

There has been a major data breach at some of the fanciest hotel chains in Central Florida.   Rosen Hotels and Resorts on Tuesday said people who visited their hotels over the past 17 months could be at risk, and according to the Orlando-based hotel chain, anyone who used credit cards at the Rosen Center on International Drive and their other locations could be affected.

This massive data breach went on undetected for almost a year-and-a-half, before guests started noticing a pattern of unauthorized charges after using their cards during hotel stays.  The chain posted a warning to its customers after receiving reports of that pattern back in February.

A cyber security team found that someone installed malware on the company’s payment-card network, leaching cardholder names, numbers, expiration dates, and verification codes.  Anyone staying at a Rosen hotel between September 2014 and this past February may have been affected.

The hotel chain says its working with the banks to find affected cards, but if you stayed at, or even visited one of these hotels during that time frame, it’s a good idea to keep a close eye on your statements and report anything suspicious to your bank.  For more information, click here.

Rosen Hotels and Resorts owns and operates seven properties in the Orlando area, including the Rosen Inn International, Rosen Inn, Rosen Inn at Pointe Orlando, Clarion Inn Lake Buena Vista, Rosen Plaza Hotel, Rosen Centre Hotel, and Rosen Shingle Creek.
