Crosswalk to commemorate the victims of the Pulse nightclub shooting being installed

The City of Orlando's permit to create a decorative crosswalk near the Pulse Nightclub site has been approved by the Florida Department of Transportation.

Many members of the community have been contacting the city about creating a colorful commemorative crosswalk similar to ones other communities have done.

The crosswalk will be located on West Esther Street off South Orange Avenue and will include a rainbow color pattern to honor the memory of the 49 lives lost and the lives of those that were forever changed on June 12, 2016.

The cross walk serves as a symbol of our compassion, love, and unity in the Central Florida community.

Installation will be just a two-day process and should begin Tuesday, October 10th and be completed by Wednesday, October 11th, assuming weather permits.

During the installation, entry onto West Esther Street will be maintained through the use of flaggers to allow access. There should be no disruption on to Esther.
