Crosswalk crackdown: Officers ticketing those who don't yield for pedestrians

Crosswalks have become a big issue with pedestrians and officials are working to keep everyone safe.

Officials will walk into the crosswalks and see if drivers are not yielding for them. If they are not, they will give them a ticket on the spot. That's $166 and three points on your license.

This crackdown is part of the 'Best Foot Forward' program that has been expanding in Central Florida for several years now. It is meant to curb the really high rate of pedestrian accidents that occur in the Orlando Metro Area.

They hope that an enforcement effort like this will remind drivers that they need to change their behavior and do something different to help keep pedestrians safe.  More than 4,000 tickets have been written to drivers as part of enforcement efforts like this.
