Couple arrested in buritto fight, fork stabbing

A couple was arrested early Tuesday morning in Crestview, after they got into a physical fight in their home.

Suzanne Hurlvert says she hit her husband in the back of the head with a Taco-Bell burrito, and he retaliated by stabbing her in the hand with a fork.

Her husband Carl Smith left the house after their fight.

Deputies arrived on the scene after someone called in reports of a disturbance.

They said Hurlvert was inside the home “calm and in good spirits” expect a fork was protruding from her hand.

The woman was taken to North Okaloosa Medical Center so the fork could be removed.

When deputies asked the couple why they were fighting, Hurlvert said they got into an argument over Smith’s need to go out and drink every night.

Authorities eventually caught up with Smith at the Crestview Bar. He tried to tell deputies he threw the fork at her, and never stabbed his wife.

Deputies say that is when they showed Smith a picture of the fork in his wife’s hand. They say Smith responded by laughing at the picture.

Smith is being charged with aggravated battery, and Hurlvert was charged with domestic violence related battery.
