Colonial Drive closed after pedestrian struck by Amtrak train

- Colonial Drive (State Road 50) was shut down in both directions in downtown Orlando for several hours late Friday afternoon as crews responded after a pedestrian was struck by a southbound Amtrak train.  The incident happened just after 2 p.m., right behind the parking structure for the Camden Orange Court Apartments.

Amtrak Train 97, also known as the Silver Meteor, travels daily between New York City and Miami.  "At the time of the incident, 227 passengers were on the train. There are no reported injuries to passengers or crew members," said Amtrak spokesperson Kimberly Woods.

SunRail service was suspended between the LYNX Central and Sand Lake Road stations due to police activity, but a bus bridge had been implemented between Florida Hospital and Sand Lake Road to accommodate southbound passengers.  The Amtrak train was moved around 5:15 p.m. and Colonial Drive was reopened to traffic around the same time.  SunRail service resumed at around 5:30 p.m.

Authorities have not released the identity of the man who was struck by the train.  They are presently investigating how the incident occurred.
