Civil rights leaders pursuing felony charges for students who threatened their teacher

PALM COAST, Fla. (FOX 35 WOFL) - Civil rights leaders in Flagler County want more action taken against two high school students accused of threatening their teacher.

The district said that the two students were discovered threatening a staff member through an electronic messenger. The students were placed on administrative leave while the situation was investigated.

Detectives forwarded misdemeanor assault charges with hate crime enhancements to the State Attorney's Office for review, but the NAACP is pursuing felony charges, according to the Daytona Beach News Journal. Leaders will hold a news conference on Tuesday about it.
