City may test turning wastewater into tap water

Daytona Beach wants to test turning your wastewater into drinking water.

The thought of tap water coming from waste water is an idea that might make your stomach turn, but officials in Daytona Beach say they want to test it out.

Officials are going to test it out for two years, as they aim to find a new water supply that can keep up with demand.

Any water used will still have to undergo rigorous testing and the state officials say that none of the water in the program would end up in the public drinking supply yet.

The city is working with the EPA and the state to explore this idea.
