Child hospitalized after falling out of hotel window

A child has been transported by helicopter to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children after falling from the third story of an Orlando-area resort hotel, authorities say.

Orange County Fire Rescue responded to 8113 Resort Village Drive around 4:30 p.m. on Thursday after a caller stated that a child fell out of a three-story window.

"As the family was gathering their belongings to head back to Michigan, a 9-year-old boy stayed unattended in the room located on the third floor," said Rose Silva, spokesperson with the Orange County Sheriff's Office.  "When the family member returned to the room, she heard the child scream and saw him on the ground."

The Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident.  Silva said the child was alert and conscious and was able to get up and walk.  The boy was taken to the hospital for evaluation.
