Carjacking, shooting reported near Dr. Phillips High School

Orange County deputies are searching for two suspects after a carjacking and report of shots fired near Dr. Phillips High School.

Deputies responded to a call at a home Tuesday morning to reports of gunfire around 8 a.m., the sheriff’s office said.

Sheriff's Office spokesman Jeff Williamson said a man walked outside his home on Megan Elissa Ln. to find two men taking off in his black Toyota Prius.  When he tried to stop them, Williamson said the victim was shot twice.

"The victim did at some point approach the car with the suspects inside," Williamson explained. "A confrontation ensues -- either they get out or they shoot him from the car -- and flee on foot."

The victim was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center in stable condition with non-life threatening wounds.  One bullet struck his face while another struck him in the arm.

Officials with Orange County Public Schools confirmed that Dr. Phillips High School, Palm Lake Elementary and Southwest Middle School were locked down due to police activity in the area.   As of 9:30 a.m., the lockdowns were lifted.

Now, authorities are looking for four suspects in this case.

"We believe we had two who fled on foot and two who fled in a vehicle.  So we don t know if they were working as a team working this particular burglary or multiple burglary or what their agenda was," Williamson added.
