Car stolen while warming up in driveway

- The Flager County Sheriff's Office says that it may seem tempting to start your car a few minutes early to warm it up before heading on your way, but do not.

The sheriff's office says that on Wednesday morning around 7 a.m., a resident of Sea Spiral Path in Palm Coast started his vehicle to get it warmed up. Yet, moments later, it was driven away by an unknown thief.

Deputies alerted surrounding counties and utilized Bluetooth technology to track the vehicle to Daytona Beach, were it was located and secured by the Daytona Beach Police Department. The vehicle was unoccupied when located and the suspect is still unknown.

“Getting into a cold car is better than getting your car stolen,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “Dress appropriately for the weather and plan to stay in your vehicle until the windows are defrosted and it is safe to drive. Luckily this car was returned to the owner with little damage.”
