Bomb squad responds to 2 separate calls near Orange County Courthouse

A bomb squad with the City of Orlando Fire Department was kept busy on Tuesday after receiving two separate calls of suspicious packages at locations near the Orange County Courthouse.

Earlier in the day, two suspicious devices were found outside of the courthouse.  Officials closed the building for hours and all of the streets around the facility were shutdown.  They packages were discovered outside of the State Attorney's Office.  The first situation was successfully neutralized, and the packages were identified as not being a threat.

Officials thought they had had the situation wrapped up, and shortly around 4:15 p.m., as people were waiting to go back inside the courthouse, the bomb squad rolled back up and crews were going through the same procedure.  "This is what we train this. This is what we are ready for this," said Deputy Chief Gerald Lane.  "We had actually had two items we dealt with at one time.  We were prepared and ready."

Many courthouse staffers left for the day, but for the ones with keys and purses left inside the building, they were are stuck waiting longer to get back inside and were delayed going home.
