Armed man arrested after barricading himself in his Irish pub

- An armed man who barricaded himself inside his Irish pub, located on Ronald Reagan BLVD and Church Avenue, has been arrested, reports the Longwood Police Department.

In a press conference held on Monday afternoon, officials say that law enforcement responded to Connolly's Irish Pub after receiving a 911 hang up call from there. The barricaded man, identified as 49-year-old Leonard Robert Nolan, brandished a firearm and become verbally aggressive with officers. So, officers made a perimeter around the pub and shut down any local traffic.

Surrounding agencies, including the Seminole County SWAT, was contacted for assistance during the standoff. They also surrounded the building, as Nolan became more aggressive, pointing a handgun several times out the window and towards law enforcement.

This is when a SWAT member reportedly decided to shoot at Nolan and he was immediately taken into custody. He was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries and he is going to be fine. Charges are still pending.

Law enforcement said that Nolan, who actually owns the pub, was alone inside at the time.

As standard procedure, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement will investigate the officer-involved shooting, and the deputy has been placed on administrative leave.

Cheryl Bryant works nearby. She said "we heard probably about 6 shots and then we saw the battering ram." Sheriff's deputies say the man with the handgun became extremely angry."

Resident Cynthia Sefrie also commented, saying that  "they took someone out on the stretcher, but we didn't see. The person was alive because it was popped up and stuff."

People like Cheryl say that the owner is usually a nice friendly person, "I love Lenny, Lenny's my neighbor, he's a good friend." Many in shock that this happened in quaint little Longwood. Resident Kris Sefrie says, "It's bizarre, this is a quiet little town."

Cheryl's relieved police didn't kill her friend, "They didn't do it so I'm really proud of them right now."
