ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - An assistant basketball coach from a Christian school is charged with grand theft. He bonded out of the Orange County Jail.
It was a dreary day outside Agape Christian Academy. Inside, deputies arrested assistant basketball coach James Morris. According to investigators, the school's front office administrator was collecting money from students for a senior cruise and graduation fees. Deputies say they discovered, that Morris collected some of the money instead.
According to the arrest report, two students had receipts from Morris for money they paid him, however the payments weren't given to the school. "As a parent, it's hard to see someone act like that, but what can you say," says Ludie Joseph, who lives near the suspect.
We tried contacting administrators at the school but so far no one's gotten back to us. Deputies say a total of $1,240 was taken in the form of checks and cash.
A school administrator discovered what happened after a parent told her, that she was able to pay Morris.
She told deputies he didn't have permission to do that. Joseph says, "The only thing you could do for them is pray. I guess you can keep them in our prayers."
