Arrest made in firecracker distraction theft at Florida Mall

An arrest has been made in a distraction theft at Florida Mall that send shoppers scrambling after they heard loud bangs, which many believed to be gunshots.  In fact, authorities say they were actually just firecrackers.

Kevin Triana, 22, was arrested in Greenville, South Carolina for the incident that happened on April 8. He is charged in the subsequent robbery at Mayors Fine Jewelry inside the Florida Mall.  

Authorities continue to search for a second suspect described as a Hispanic man , approximately 5 feet, 7 inches tall. That suspect was last seen wearing all gray clothing, red sneakers, and had a blue drawstring-style backpack.

Deputies say that the two men used firecrackers to distract people while they robbed a store and then escaped into the crowd of frantic people running from the Florida Mall. Hundreds of terrified shoppers were captured on cell phone video running from the scene. 

Once deputies got to the scene, they say that they discovered no shooter but that there had been a robbery at Mayor's Jewelers. 

Eleven people were injured. Five of those were injured so badly that they needed to be taken to the hospital.
