Alleged burglar tries to sneak into DeLand store through roof because he was thirsty

- Volusia County deputies busted a guy who tried to sneak into a DeLand store through the roof.

Deputies received a call from the suspect, identified as Michael Monacelli, on Saturday. They think he may be in distress, but they soon realize that they likely have a wanna-be burglar planning to drop into the store through the roof.

The Fire Department supplied a ladder to get him down and once everyone is on solid ground, they put him in cuffs. However, the suspect keeps talking and sticks to his story that he was just really, really thirsty and wanted a water.  One officer asked him "Why are you on the roof bud," to which he responded "I needed water." Deputies did not buy that excuse, especially as the store was closed.

Monacelli also broke one of the store's windows, again stating that he wanted to enter to get something to drink. He told deputies that when he could not get into the business is when he then climbed onto the roof. Monacelli showed deputies the window he struck and offered to pay for the damage.

Monacelli was taken to the Volusia County Jail after being medically cleared.
