Residents disgusted after finding syringes scattered throughout neighborhood

- People who live in a Holly Hill neighborhood are ‘disgusted’ after finding syringes on the ground near their homes.

FOX 35 saw three needles along Espanola Avenue, which is a block down from U.S. 1. One was tucked into the grass and two were under a bush lining a parking lot.

“I can’t even believe this is directly across the street from my house,” said Natraya Taylor.

She says her 12-year-old son likes to play in the area and sometimes goes outside barefoot.

“He has a go-kart, he does his go-kart all up and down through this place,” she explained.

Neighbors say they have no idea how the needles got there, but they’re terrified someone could get poked even though the caps are still on.

“Who knows what’s in the needle,” Taylor said, since drugs or deadly diseases could be inside.

One woman, who didn’t want to be identified, has been trying to warn everyone after stumbling across them while walking her dog. She says then, there were even more.

“Several days ago, I saw about five or six,” she said.

FOX 35 reached out to police after seeing three on the ground. An officer arrived right away, picking up the syringes and putting them in a sharps container.

Holly Hill’s chief says they get calls to pick up needles every once and a while but officers haven’t noticed an increase.
