2 spring breakers accused of stealing jet ski for joyride

- According to Volusia County Beach Safety Ocean Rescue, officers continue to see large spring break crowds, and  with those crowds came numerous alcohol violations.  Authorities said two spring breakers visiting from Virginia were arrested on Friday, accused of stealing a jet ski.

A spokesperson with Volusia County said a jet ski attendant was having some mechanical issues and beached the jet ski in the area of 300 N. on the beach Daytona Beach.  Shortly afterward, two spring breakers hopped on the ski and proceeded to ride it south around the Main Street pier.

"Our officers were able to follow them on land along the shoreline. The jet ski thieves then beached the ski just south of the Main Street pier and tried running off,  at which point our officers were able to secure both subjects," said Capt. Tamra Marris with Beach Patrol.

James Duffey, 22, and Andrew Gentry,  21, each face a charge of grand theft of a vessel.
