DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Daytona Beach Police say Ulesec Oneal and Terry Howard were in a car with a friend Tuesday night pointing lasers at passing cars on Williamson Boulevard. It was late, and it was dark.
Police say the lasers are on top of a lighter that's shaped like a gun, and looks a lot like a 22 caliber.
Police say the men pointed the lasers into a Volusia Deputy's unmarked pick up truck. That deputy followed Oneal and Howard to an apartment complex, thinking the guns were real. He even called in for back up saying he was following armed suspects.
Daytona Beach Police spokesman Jimmie Flynt said, "As our unit that was backing him up pulled up, he saw that there was a deputy running for cover because it looked like a gun."
Police say the men ran away and hid. But not for long. If one of the men had pointed the fake guns at the deputy or police, Flynt says this could have been much worse.
He said, "They were apologetic but the thing of it is if you point that laser at someone it temporarily blinds them, it stuns them, if they're a driver they can lose control of their car. or you know it can cause you to be disoriented and you know those things are dangerous!"
