DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (FOX 35 WOFL) - The Daytona Beach Police say that an 11-year-old boy was struck by a car while crossing the road.
They said officers responded to a crash involving a child on Saturday. Upon investigation, they learned that an 11-year-old boy, accompanied by two other juveniles, was walking west on Mason across Clyde Morris on the crosswalk.
The child, who did not have the right of way, is said to have walked across. At that moment, a motorist who had the green light and who was heading south on Clyde Morris, struck the boy.
Police say that witnesses told police that the motorist, 27-year-old Connor Zessin, had the right of way and that he stopped his vehicle and remained at the scene.
The boy was reportedly taken to the Halifax Medical center where he underwent surgery. He was listed in critical and unstable condition at the time.
The crash remains under investigation. No criminal charges are anticipated, police say.
