Jaci Pfeiffer, 29, and Kelly Bardier, 33, have been dating since October. They say a few weeks ago they were terminated from their teaching jobs at Aloma Methodist Early Childhood Learning Center in Winter Park after the school's director asked them if they were gay.
"I really miss the kids and just upset over the way it all happened I didn't see it happening like this at all," Jaci Pfeiffer said.
FOX 35 was unable to contact the day care center's director for comment, but one parent we spoke with at the day care center gave us a letter the director sent out to parents back in March. It says the women left due to personal reasons.
The attorney representing Pfeiffer and Bardier says that's not the case, and she says the center, even though a religious business, has no ground to stand on to fire the women for their sexual orientation.
"It's our position those were illegal firings in violation of a county human rights ordinance and in violation of the federal civil rights law," said civil rights attorney Mary Meeks.
Meeks wrote a request to the school for an apology, a termination retraction so the women will have a good employment history as they look for new jobs, and reference letters.
