East Orange Co. brush fire extinguished; lightning blamed

UPDATE: Firefighters have extinguished the fire, but will monitor it for any flare-ups overnight.

Fire officials say the fire spread to about 10 acres before it was contained and put out.

No homes were damaged.

Lightning is being blamed for sparking the blaze.


Firefighters are battling a brush fire burning near homes in East Orange County.

It's burning in the Wedgefield community on Bassett Avenue and Sheldon Street Road, just north of the beachline near Hal Scott Park.

So far, no homes have caught fire.
