The discovery was made by staff shortly after Jesse Roepcke was being booked into the Volusia County Jail. Deputies said Roepcke, 27, had been hiding about 18 grams of marijuana in a bag, which produced itself when a jail employee told him to cough.
Roepcke was taken into custody earlier after a deputy responded to a complaint from a driver about a laser pointer being shown in her eyes as she traveled along South Atlantic Avenue. According to an arrest affidavit, the deputy searched Roepcke during a stop and discovered "a device for smoking narcotics" in his front pocket, which tested "presumptive positive for cannabis."
In addition to the charges related to pointing a laser at a driver and possession of drug paraphernalia, Roepcke is also charged with smuggling drugs into the jail and possession of marijuana.
