Baby deer recovering at wildlife center

A fawn is recovering at a wildlife rehabilitation center in Port Orange after a woman tried to help the little guy, but in the end she made things worse.

The woman thought the baby deer was abandoned because she didn't see a mother deer, so she tried to take him in.

Unfortunately, the fawn got very sick from being handled by the woman.

A Flagler County Sheriff's Agricultural deputy says the deer couldn't be more than a few days old. The deputy took the deer to a wildlife rehab center in Port Orange where it will be nursed back to health and introduced to other deer.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission says mother deer often go to find food and return to their babies.

They say if you ever think you see a deer in trouble you shouldn’t touch it.

They recommend calling the Florida Wildlife Control and letting the professionals handle it.
