Body found in burned car behind country club

Polk County Sheriff's Office detectives are conducting a death investigation after being notified of a car that was on fire located behind the cart barn at the Eaglebrooke golf and country club in Lakeland. 

The fire was noticed by staff and golfers at around 9:30 a.m. Saturday morning.

Polk County Fire Rescue responded and put out the fire. 

Detectives discovered a deceased person in the driver's side front seat of a badly burned four door Kia sedan.

No positive identification of the body has been made. 

The body has been taken to the Medical Examiner's office to investigate the manner and cause of death. 

The vehicle was in an area with thick vegetation behind the cart barn. 

No other equipment or buildings were damaged.
