Oviedo High School baseball coach Harold Hitt resigned as coach after an internal investigation by the Seminole School District accused him of having an inappropriate relationship with a female student.
According to documents released by the district, in 2014, when the student was 18 years old, she received a Facebook friend request after meeting Coach Hitt at school.
An oak tree is part of the investigation. The district says according to online messages, the two would meet under it where they wouldn't be seen.
The district says in other online conversations, Hitt calls her "bff," meaning best friends forever and "bae," which means before anyone else. He also calls her his "baby girl."
According to the investigation, during another conversation, she asked him to be her advisor. After he agreed, she later declined saying she felt uncomfortable.
The report also states that during prom last year, Hitt went up to the student and took a picture with her, talked about how drunk he was and kissed her on the mouth while embracing her in front other students and guests. She recoiled, later telling investigators that Hitt reeked of alcohol.
It was in April of 2015, when another school employee noticed the student looking uncomfortable as Hitt sat by her in the cafeteria. After that, the employee asked her if she was OK. She told him about Hitt's suggestive actions and the discomfort she felt. The student shared Facebook messages with school administrators.
Hitt told investigators he never had sexual relations with the student, but told them he used poor judgment. He also told them he once viewed an adult video that she was in.
Hitt is married and has two children. He resigned as baseball coach, but not from teaching.
Superintendent Walt Griffin released a statement saying he was disgusted by the allegations. He says he'll recommend that Hitt be suspended and possibly fired.
