Seminole won't be "Orlando North" yet

Seminole County Commissioners tabled the idea of using the slogan "Orlando North" as their tourism slogan until at least the end of the summer. The idea from Seminole's consultants brought heated debate to the Commission chambers, even from members of the public like James Windsor or Fern Park, and John Casselberry of Casselberry

"I am resident of Seminole County, not of Orlando North."
"From a tourism point of view, it could be deceptive because we are really like 30 or 40 miles from the theme parks."

"Attaching your tourism to the best recognized name in tourism is just a smart thing to do."

Chairman Brenda Carey took the other side, saying the County was not given any options. She surveyed businesses and hotels that already use Orlando in their name and found it was almost never first.

"Only one has the word Orlando first. They are either the Hilton, the Westin, Audi, Mercedes, whatever, north Orlando or Orlando North, not Orlando North Seminole County."

Knowing he was the tie-breaking vote, Commissioner Lee Constantine asked the item be tabled until a full workshop could be held with both the Tourism Development Council, and the Board of Commissioners so differences can be worked out. That meeting will happen this summer. The slogan would only be used in tourism. Seminole's main slogan will remain "Florida's Natural Choice".
