It took a jury about two hours to reach a guilty verdict in the trial of Matthew Donnelly.
Donnelly's accuser took the stand earlier in the day. The 26-year-old said Donnelly had been flagged down by her boyfriend who wanted help, because she had become unresponsive from drinking. That's when the woman said Donnelly attacked her.
Detectives found Donnelly's dashboard camera was turned off for about 22 minutes that night.
"It was my intention to turn off the lights, but I also knew that the camera system would shut off," Donnelly said under questioning. "But that was not a concern to me, because I was not investigating a crime."
Evidence presented in court showed that the woman's DNA was present inside Donnelly's patrol car.
"She was wiping her eyes, and there was at least three times where she reached up and grabbed into my hand, around my fingers," Donnelly explained.
Donnelly faces a penalty of up to life in prison.
