Deputies search for suspect accused of purse-snatching mom with baby

Orange County deputies are searching for a man who robbed a mother as she was holding her baby.

"It makes me scared more than anything that it can just happen anywhere," said Mallorie Youngblood, who says she was robbed in a Walmart parking lot on Orange Blossom Trail.

She says a man approached her told her he needed her purse.

"So, I kind of looked at him funny and started backing up, and he says, ‘I'm not playing, I have a knife.'"

According to deputies, the robbery took place on Sunday in the middle of the afternoon.

Youngblood, 19, says she just left church and was about to go inside and shop for her son, Bentley.

She says she did her best to cushion Bentley as they both fell on the ground.

"He started screaming and crying," she said. "At first, I thought he was hurt, but I think it just terrified him more than anything."

Youngblood said her first instinct was to protect Bentley, telling investigators she didn't care what was in her purse.

Luckily, no one was hurt.

"I had a few scratches [on] my legs from hitting the ground, but other than that nothing else," she said.

Deputies say the man got away in a blue truck.

"I wouldn't have had a problem with helping somebody, but the fact that he endangered my son, I mean that was just my biggest thing, especially in broad daylight," she said. "I'd be very, very cautious."

Anyone with information is asked to call the Orange County Sheriff's Office.
