Veterans groups in Georgia are expected to protest today after a veteran was detained for trying to stop protesters from stepping on the American flag.
Last Friday, the protesters were at Valdosta State University. They had already been there a number of days and were walking on the flag to highlight racism.
14-year U.S. Air Force veteran Michelle Manhart says she tried to take the flag from them because she felt it was her duty to protect it.
In the cell phone video, a scuffle breaks out when police officers tried to snatch the flag from Manhart before handing it back to the protesters.
Manhart was detained for taking property that didn't belong to her. She was released because the protesters and the officers declined to press charges.
Still, she said she would do it all over again.
"When it comes to the flag it's is iconic symbol," Manhart said. "It stands for everything that we are. It stands for freedom to allows those individuals to protest. How do you justify ruining or walking upon something that's given you the right to do what you're doing?"
