Wrong way hit-and-run driver caught after 417 accident

The Florida Highway Patrol shut down northbound lanes of State Road 417 because of a hit-and-run accident Saturday morning.

Troopers said the accident happened around 9 a.m. Saturday in the area of the highway between Colonial Drive and University Boulevard.

Troopers said the driver, 25-year-old Russell Roberts, was southbound in the northbound lanes of 417 when he went through a toll booth and caused a four car crash.
Roberts took off on foot and ran east, troopers said.

Orange County firefighters reported only one person was hurt and taken to the hospital.

Troopers said a short while later, they were able to track Roberts  with K-9s to an apartment complex at 9201 Nelson Park Cir.  He was bitten by the K-9 and taken to Florida Hospital East to be treated for the bite.

State Road 417 has since re-opened.

Roberts is scheduled to go before a judge Sunday.
