Police said the accident happened after 10 p.m. Friday after a car was found submerged in a retention pond off Fentress Boulevard.
The driver, later identified as a 63-year-old woman was headed north on Fentress Boulevard, near Dunn Avenue when she went off the road and into a drainage ditch, police said.
The driver swerved back to the road and hit a raised curb which caused the car to become airborne and land in the retention pond, police said.
The Volusia County dive team was called out to search the car and that is when they found the woman inside and unresponsive.
The driver was pronounced dead and police said there were no witnesses to the crash.
Police said the crash investigation is ongoing.
