ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - SeaWorld Entertainment eliminated 320 positions, including jobs at SeaWorld Orlando, on Tuesday.
The company says the positions are in all 12 parks and include both salaried and hourly jobs. That includes some open positions that will not be filled.
FOX 35's Tom Johnson talked with FOX Business contributor Gary Kaltbaum to find out what's behind the move and what it means.
"It's going the wrong way," Kaltbaum said. "When you lose your most important part of your marketing, and that is the whales, things change. They have to adjust to a new world right now."
The entire enterprise focuses on reducing costs, increasing efficiencies, reducing duplication of functions and improving the company's operations through proven benchmarks. These changes are being made to best position the company for long-term success, and so that we can continue to do great things for animals across the globe.
"I do not see an end of the world type scenario,” Kaltbaum said. “I do not see the shutting of theme parks for them."
