2 shot at apartment complex near UCF

Two people have been shot near the University of Central Florida, authorities say.

It happened around 8:30 p.m. on Socrates Drive, which is located right across from the UCF campus off of N. Alafaya Trail and just south of University Blvd.

The university notified students of the shooting through an alert that indicated the victims were two men.  The Orange County Sheriff's Office has confirmed the two male victims, ages 21 and 22, are not students at the university. Their identities were not released.

Investigators tell FOX 35 that some of the bullets struck a victim's apartment, where four young kids were inside.  Many students who live nearby say they heard the shots.

"We were just hanging out at our apt on the balcony," said Eric Pritchard, "and we heard 'Pow! Pow! Pow! Pow!' six shots. It was crazy we just had to see what was going on."

"There were four young kids inside an apartment that these guys shot into tonight and thank God none of these kids were hurt. But we still consider these guys very armed and dangerous," said Orange County Sheriff's Office spokesman Lt. Paul Hopkins says.

Deputies said both victims are in critical condition at Orlando Regional Medical Center. They continue to search for the shooter.
