Sen. Rubio faces pressure to run for re-election to Senate

- WASHINGTON (AP) — Sen. Marco Rubio is facing intense pressure from Republicans to run for re-election to his Florida Senate seat.

Republicans inside and out of the Senate are urging him to abandon his plans to retire, arguing it might be the only way to keep his seat in GOP hands. These Republicans fear that if they lose Florida their odds increase of losing their Senate majority altogether.

Rubio tells reporters he is "unlikely" to run again. But he is not closing the door entirely and acknowledges he is under pressure.

The primary in Florida is not until August and the filing deadline is June 24.

Since dropping out of the presidential race Rubio has been seen as likely to leave the Senate and prepare to run again for president in four years.
