VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Volusia County Sheriff's investigators arrested a Deltona man Monday night accused of sexually molesting a 12-year-old boy. And with the defendant, Nathan Gorzelanczyk, having a history of mentoring children, investigators fear that there could be additional victims.
The investigation was launched a week ago after a 12-year-old boy recently disclosed to his therapist that Gorzelanczyk had molested him multiple times during the past year. The investigation disclosed that the 31-year-old Gorzelanczyk had been mentoring the boy for some time, taking him to church activities and to play tennis and also buying him gifts.
While visiting Gorzelanczyk at his house, the boy said he was molested on several occasions. He also said Gorzelanczyk had shown him pornography on his phone and computer, with most of the images involving young boys.
Through interviews, investigators with the Sheriff's Office's Child Exploitation Unit learned that Gorzelanczyk has been mentoring youth, both at The Journey Church in Orange City as a counselor and at the Florida United Methodist Children's Home. Gorzelanczyk said he had recently been fired from his job at the Methodist Children's Home, although he didn't disclose the reason for his termination.
Witnesses also said that the defendant often mentored neighborhood boys, bringing them into his house and offering to give them piano lessons or play video games with them. This has led investigators to suspect that there could be additional victims.
For now, Gorzelanczyk is charged with one count of lewd or lascivious molestation. He was booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail in Daytona Beach on $50,000 bond. Meanwhile, investigators seized property from the defendant's residence Monday night while serving a search warrant to determine if he's in possession of child pornography. Anyone with information about is Gorzelanczyk is urged to either call the Sheriff's Office at (386) 323-3574 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 277 TIPS.
