ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - A Pine Hills family is devastated after a young mother was found dying in her home. Francina Boykin, aunt of 36-year-old Michelle Cohen, says she’s stunned by her death.
“Any loss of a loved one is just devastating. I wouldn't wish this on anyone,” Boykin said.
Deputies found Cohen dying of a gunshot wound when they got in the house, Thursday night. She died in the hospital.
Deputies say Cohen had two daughters, a 17-year old and a 13-year old. They say the 13-year old was in the house when the shooting happened. Boykin, says they're struggling to understand why.
“My niece was a loving mother and a hard worker. And for this to happen to her is just senseless, just senseless,” Boykin said.
Deputies say it's an open investigation, and they say the family needs time to grieve.
“They're all in shock right now, obviously we'd all be, in a situation like this,” said Deputy Ingrid Tejada-Monforte, OCSO spokesperson.
Boykin says right now faith is all they have.
“Pray for us as we go through this time in our lives. If anyone has ever been in this position, you know how we're feeling.”
