Wedgefield community concerned over local water quality

- More than a dozen families in the Wedgefield community in east Orange County are waiting on test results to find out if their water is safe to drink.

Residents say their water doesn't taste, smell, or look right.  They claim they can see stuff floating in it and want to know it is dangerous.

So far the county has tested 18 homes in the area, but results have only come back from two homes. Those results do not reveal any lead or bacteria, but they did find a carcinogen in the water.

The county insists there's no immediate health risk, but homeowners are upset nonetheless. "If you could take a cup of water from my pool, one from the sink, you can't tell the difference," one homeowner said. "I do my best to keep my mouth closed in the shower. Even when I brush my teeth I use bottled water."

The county hasn't said when the test results from those remaining 16 homes will be ready. Many of the families Fox35 spoke to say they are now stocking up on bottled water.
