Thousands of students in Orange County will have to switch schools next year.
The district approved a re-zoning plan that would affect students in kindergarten through eighth grade around downtown Orlando.
The plan includes closing four schools and opening three new ones.
Board members decided not to rezone a small area including a portion of Lake Shore Drive from Winter Park High to Edgewater High School after several residents spoke out against this.
School officials are promoting the K-through-8th grade schools as a "small-school solution" for areas without enough children to fill traditional elementary or middle schools.
Most of the rezoning plans will take effect in 2017 and it will mostly affect students in elementary school.
