SANFORD, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - A teenage boy who was found lying unconscious in the middle of a Sanford intersection has been released from the hospital. Nigel Haynes, 15, was in “good condition” when he left Thursday afternoon, according to Arnold Palmer hospital officials. How he was hurt, though, remains unclear.
People who called 911 just after 6 o’clock Wednesday morning found Haynes lying in the road at 5th Street and West Airport Blvd, and told dispatchers they were unsure of how he got there. Florida Highway Patrol troopers were investigating the case as a hit and run, but on Thursday wouldn’t confirm whether that’s actually what happened.
Troopers will only say that Haynes left home for the bus stop at 5:45 a.m. Wednesday and 15 minutes later, people saw him lying in the street, bleeding, with an injury over his left eye. Nigel is awake and talking, but the family declined to tell Fox 35 what happened, or the extent of his injuries. An attorney for the family said she’s giving investigators a chance to sort this out, while the Haynes family focuses on Nigel’s recovery.
Officials are asking that if anyone might have seen anything related to this case to please call FHP at 407-737-2213 or Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS.
